First Week

We had a fantastic first week of school!  It was filled with learning about new friends, teachers, routine and expectations.

On the first day of school, we read a book called "First Day Jitters."  We all had a little jitter in our stomach on the first day, so we had fun getting rid of the jitters by drinking the Jitter Juice!

We have started learning about insects in science.  I have been searching for Monarch caterpillars, but haven't had any luck.  If you have some time this weekend to find one, I would love to have it in our classroom to observe its life cycle!

Welcome!

Hi Parents, Guardians, and Friends,

If you are one of my new first grade parents, welcome! I am so excited to be your child's teacher this year! We will be going on many learning adventures in the first grade, and I am looking forward to meeting each of you at the open house on August 22 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Don't forget to bring your supplies!

I hope you will visit this blog frequently to see what we are learning in the classroom. There you can see photos, our Water Helper calendar (links are to the left) and reminders about upcoming special events!  Please share this blog with your family members who may live out of town so that they can be part of our learning community.

Here are a couple of ways to help you connect with this blog:
  • “Follow by E-mail” so that you will get an e-mail reminder when I post a new entry, or
  •  If you have a Facebook account, you can join our class group by sending me a request. I will post an update notice on the group page.  Mrs. DeGroot's Class Page
Our daily schedule, information about me, lists of first grade sight words, and monthly calendar for Water Helpers are found under the links located to the right.

There is a student with a food allergy in our classroom.  This year, baked goods will not be an option for birthday treats.  Please find the "safe snack ideas" through the link to the right.  I greatly appreciate your understanding and cooperation in keeping our classroom safe for everyone.

The beginning of first grade is just around the corner, so enjoy the rest of the summer.
See you soon!
